Fantasy Football as Described by Hollywood - Week 1
Week 1 as described by Lord of the Rings and The Fellowship of the Ring
Hello everyone, each week I plan on letting one movie describe the performances and reactions from the previous week. This week will be the first installment, and I could not think of a better movie than the epic first movie in the Lord of the Rings saga. The Fellowship of the Ring. I felt that this movie was perfect for week one. This movie signifies the beginning of a long and treacherous journey for a group of people who come together in the pursuit of a common goal. The same can be said for your fantasy football team, and even though these men didn't choose to take this journey with you, I know that you feel personally connected to each one of them. Please take all of these quotes with a grain of salt, because I am not providing analysis, but rather my thoughts on what happened. Please enjoy, and I hope to see you all next week.
"One does not simply walk into Mordor" - Boromir
This a blanket quote for the entirety of fantasy football players. You can't win, nor can you lose the championship in week one. Whether you scored the highest, lowest, or lost your best player, I can tell you that it doesn't matter. This is only the beginning of a very long journey, so don't get lost in the overreactions of week one performances. Stay focused and don't get complacent. If your team outperformed, be sure to still keep a keen eye on the waiver wire AND if your team crapped the bed, be sure to not sell off your entire team based off one poor performance.
"What about breakfast?" -Pippin
"You've already had it." Aragorn
"What about second breakfast" - Pippin
This goes out to all the Christian McCaffrey owners. You lucky s.o.b.'s.... Not only was CMC the number one running back on the week, he did it all while not scoring a touchdown. This is just a friendly reminder that CMC will make sure you always have breakfast, and if you're lucky he can give you a second and sometimes a third.
Bryan Edwards was truly a wizard last night. He didn't catch a single ball until there were two minutes left in the fourth quarter, and yet he finished the game with 4 catches for 81 yards. He was also a foot away from scoring the game winning touchdown, which would have made his performance even better. For all those who took a chance on Edwards this week, all I can say is congratulations. For all those who lost by his hand, all I can say is never take a victory for granted.
"Not the beard!" - Gimli
The world lost a great fantasy football hero this past week in Ryan Fitzmagic. A majority of the Washington Football Teams offense was hinging on Fitzpatrick's throwing ability and now the team is right back where they were last season. Their hopes and dreams now lie in the fate of Taylor Heinicke. McLaurin, Gibson, and Thomas owners may be nervous, but I believe this team is still in a great spot to succeed.
To all the Waller and Kelce owners. You owe these men your allegiance. They both had stellar week 1 performances and picked up immediately where they left off last season. If you managed to draft either of these players, just know that the only time you have to worry about your tight-end slot is when they have their bye week.
"It came to me, my own, my love... my... precioussss" - Gollum
Great job by you if you happened to take a late round flyer that popped off in week one. Mike Williams, Devonta Smith, and Jamaal Williams all had excellent games and the look poised to be consistent players the rest of the season. However, don't be like Gollum and obsess over them. While on the surface it seems like you found a diamond in the rough. You need to be sure to act rationally if they begin to under perform. Enjoy the week 1 glory, but don't be afraid to move on. Remember, there was a reason they were late round draft picks.
"I wish the ring had never come to me, I wish none of this had happened" - Frodo
For those that lost a key part of their team this week, I apologize. While you reserve the right to be upset you need to be able to move on. I am talking to the Jeudy and Mostert owners. It is all part of the game and there is nothing you can do about it. It sucks that it happened in week 1, but almost every team will lose players. Just ride out the storm and continue on your journey to a championship.
Thank you again for taking the time to read this. Please be on the lookout next week for another installment of fantasy football as described by Hollywood.
