Fantasy Football as described by Hollywood - Week 4

Fantasy Football as Described by Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

Hello everyone, I am back again after another awesome week of fantasy football. We are now a quarter of the way through most leagues fantasy seasons and if you started 0-4 or 1-3 now is the time to start making some moves. While most of your league may see you as a bye week, now is not the time to lose hope. For the next few weeks you will be considered the underdog, which is exactly how you want your opponent to think. While you are busy researching the best starts of the week, your opponent may just set and forget. This will open the door for more wins and an even sweeter comeback. This week, I wanted to find a movie that embodies the underdog, and that is the story we find inside Dodgeball. While the movie is hilariously stupid, the underlying story of David vs Goliath is exactly how some owners are feeling after this week. As always I will be breaking down a few of best and worse performances from the week as well as adding some quotes that look forward into the year.

Patches O'Houlihan: "You're about as useful as a poopy-flavored lollipop."

I believe that this is what Eagles head coach, Nick Sirianni says to Miles Sanders before every game. In the past two weeks, Sanders has a total of 9 rushes. He had 15 and 13 rushes in the first two weeks of the season. Why the Eagles are under utilizing one of their most proven and talented players is beyond me. It seems when they are losing they choose to go to rookie running back Kenneth Gainwell, and I do expect the Eagles to be losing a bit more in the upcoming weeks. Looking ahead, you would like to think that things will change for Sanders, but as long as Sirianni keeps benching Sanders, I am afraid that you will need to do the same.

White Goodman: "At Globo Gym. We're better than you... and we know it!"

Kliff Kingsbury proudly recites this quote to every coach he meets right after each win. Through four weeks the Cardinals are 4-0 with one of, if not the best offenses in the league. Just last week they beat the LA Rams, a team that many analysts in the industry called the best team in the league. They're offense has looked unstoppable with Kyler Murray at the helm. He has 4 excellent receivers to throw to, two great running backs who are each superb in their particular roles, and even a sleeper tight end in Maxx Williams. Its hard not to invest in this offense going forward as each skill player has returned a top 24 week at somepoint this year. The only difficulty for fantasy managers is picking which week will be theirs.

Cotton McKnight: Oh! Right in the testicles!"

For those that spent up to get Chuba Hubbard or already had him on your team thinking you hit the
lottery... well I am sorry, because he got you right in the testicles this week. With a RB36 finish in half ppr, Hubbard was not the replacement people were hoping for. While it is impossible to replace the unanimous RB1, I am sure people were hoping for a game that looked closer to what Mike Davis gave managers last year. Now there is a chance for him to turn it around, but he is a rookie who does not have a lot of time to get things figured out before CMC returns. You may want to look elsewhere if you have the means to.

Patches O'Houlihan: "You couldn't hit water if you fell out of a boat"

While this quote has been used both before and after this movie. I found that it is very telling of the current quarterback situation in Denver. Teddy Bridgewater left the game early after suffering a concussion and things went immediately downhill from there. Drew Lock is now the de facto starter, which essentially kills the value of every skill player on this team. For now, it may be best to look elsewhere, because the ceiling for this team just got exponentially lower.

Referee: "Winner! Average Joes!"

J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS! The Jets are no longer winless after barely surviving in OT. The entire fan base was able to take a big sigh of relief after Randy Bullock missed the game tying field goal in the closing minutes of overtime. Although his team does not offer much in terms of fantasy value, there are some bright spots. Corey Davis, is the clear WR1 for this team, and poses as an every week flex option. There is also rookie running back Michael Carter who is more of a wait and see at this point. There isn't much else this team can offer fantasy wise, but their future looks bright now that Gase is no longer behind the wheel.

Patches O'Houlihan: "Go you crazy son of a bitch GO!"

Cordarrelle Patterson is the current RB1 on the week. He did that with just 30% of the running back snaps, Patterson recorded 3 touchdowns off of 11 combined touches. He was being used as both a running back and wide receiver in the 34-30 loss to the Washington Football team. He found most of his success in the passing game catching 5 balls for 82 yards, and the previously mentioned three touchdowns. While the usage rate can be cause for worry, it is nice to see that he is being used as a weapon rather than a decoy. Cordarelle is another person that can be an every week flex, with the potential to win you a week.

Pepper Brooks: "It's a bold strategy, Cotton, Let's see if it pays off for 'em"

Now is the time to make bold moves with your lineup. Through four weeks you are no longer bounded to where you drafted your players. If you drafted Allen Robinson (ADP: 32) and Michael Pittman (ADP: 102) now is the time to make the move. Do not let your team suffer due to someones draft capital. The same can be said for making a trade. If a player is under-performing than you have to take that for what it is. If you keep looking at the draft spot, then you may miss out on players with less name recognition.

Lance Armstrong: "Well, I guess if a person never quit when the going got tough, they wouldn't have anything to regret for the rest of their life. But good luck to you Peter. I'm sure this decision won't haunt you forever."

Whatever you do, don't quit. If you're reading this article I am sure you're not, but I just wanted to pass this message along. Even if you started 0-4 or move to 0-5 after this week, there is still time to make a comeback. Keep in mind there is an extra week of NFL football which helps your cause. Also, each and every year there are players who start the season slow who become week winners. Just ride it out and put your team in the best possible situation week in and week out.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this, best of luck in week 5!
